Attention all administrators of Samba 2.2.x installations:

The Samba 2.2 code base has been in maintenance mode for
several months (since the release of Samba 3.0.0) with no
active development currently taking place. Samba 3.0 is
now firmly established and we feel that it is time to
declare an end-of-life for Samba 2.2.

The main implication is that we will no longer be providing
security fixes for Samba 2.2.x after October 1, 2004.
Individuals are free to backport fixes from 3.0 to 2.2
on their own (that's the beauty of open source right?),
but Samba.org will no longer be providing official patches
or releases for the 2.2 source tree following the cutoff
date.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make Samba 2.2 a success
and are continuing to build the Samba community.

cheers, jerry
