I have had this problem also on RHEL3 AS. I installed kerberos 1.3.4 from source
into /usr/local/kerberos (remember to configure for dns & shared libraries...
i.e. ./configure --enable-dns --disable-krb4 --enable-shared,etc). Call on these
libs when you install samba (i.e. configure --with-krb5=/usr/local/kerberos,etc).

This way you wont mess with the rpm installed libs and just use this krb5 install
for samba.
Hope this helps.
