[Samba] The system cannot log you on now becuase the domain iis unavailable on XP Pro.

Thank you for the information, it allowed me to make progress, however I am
now getting the following error:

The domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable or the machine
account cannot be found.

I have used "smbpasswd -a -m rm6$" to add the machine account. Without this
it goes back to the "Domain is unavailable" message, but with it I get the
new message. Is there a way I can manually edit the smbpasswd file?

Plaintext passwords are incompatible with domain logons.  Win9X is an
exception because it doesn't really join the domain.

Upgrade to Samba 3.0 (avoids registry patches on WinXP) and turn on
encrypted passwords.
