I may be wrong, but I seem to remeber a setting which discusses this.  
Read the whole thing.  Try :

 man smb.conf | grep 64k\ streaming
              new 64k streaming read and write varient SMB requests 
introduced

That's what I found.  That's the config line you're looking for I think.
