[Samba] RH9/W2K Networking

Hi,

I've searched for days to find some step by step instructions but
haven't found anything that seems to work.

I have two boxes:

Red Hat 9 with a net connection
	Win2K with a CD-ROM drive

Both have working Realtek 10/100 NICs with just a cable connecting them
directly (no switch/hub/etc).

I want to be able to access the net from my win2k machine and access the
cd-rom from my Red Hat 9 box.

As I said, I've found heaps of instructions but haven't had much luck
with them. I don't know whether the problem is with Samba or not.

I'm guessing my RH9 box isn't broadcasting anything, but I'm not really
sure what to look for or how to troubleshoot it if I found it.

So I guess the first step is to make sure eth0 is set up correctly for
Samba...

This is what I get from "ifconfig eth0":

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:18:A1:34:7D
          inet addr:0.0.0.10 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:0.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0xa000

The Ethereal program also suggests that nothing is really being
broadcast on the network even though eth0 seems ok "UP BROADCAST
RUNNING.."

Is this normal? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Paul
