| Hello all,
|
| Sorry for the terribly newbie questions but I have successfully
installed and access a home directory on my Linux box from a Windows XP
server but am have trouble with write permissions to the folder. Any
ideas on what could be wrong?

| Thanks

There could be two reasons:
1) samba share definition.
2) unix access rights.
If you can to the Linux box without problems, and ls -ald . gives you
something which begins with drwx the second is OK.
For the first one edit your samba configuration file, typicaly
/etc/samba/smb.conf, or alike, and check the [homes] section. I would
suggest one reading:
[homes]
~ comment = Home Directories
~ browseable = no
~ writable = yes
later you can fine tune things, but it will be enough for a starting
point. Then reload your samba daemons by: service smb restart, and it
should work.
Good Luck!
