Hi all.

Sorry for a long email, but I am really lost here and need to fix this ASAP.

I have just upgraded a samba server to the current Samba 3.0.0 binary for
Redhat 9. This has fixed an issue I was having with 2.2.7 and 2.2.8 just dying
with no errors, but I have a new problem now and I cant work it out.

User's Home directories are showing up in the list of shares (as expected) but
when any user tries to access them, they get a password dialog. It seems samba
is refusing any username and password combo to all user home shares.

The only strange thing I see with this is a bunch of dead child processes,
which seem to show up when users try to access these home shares. These all
seem to be owned by root.

Is there anything I've missed? I tried mapping some groups (like one I was in)
to NT groups. Tried adding a new user with the new tool. I even tried
accessing a user home that has permissions set to 777. No go still. I tried
making the "[homes]" section browsable and going to \\server\homes\ but the
same thing happens.

All shares other than homes work just as you would expect. The valid users are
allowed and others are not. The hidden shares are hidden, but working. It's
wierd. Everything is working apart from homes (and the dead child processes,
which i think is related).

I hope someone has had this before and solved it :P

Tim
