Hello List,
I need help to access my private linux box using my company laptop (w2k).
The smb connection between both computers
worked fine for the last years.
Now, during the last couple of weeks our internal IT-department was closed
and outsourced. A new external company
installed an Active Directory server and somehow managed to migrate my
laptop, too, to use the company's AD (I didn't
even notice).
I cannot connect to my home Samba server anymore. When I try I get the
messages "System error 1311 has occurred." "There are currently no logon servers
available to service the logon request."
As stated, I am at home with my laptop (W2k Server, SP3). My laptop receives
a DHCP address by the linux box (Suse 7.3,
Samba 2.2.1a). On the laptop the WINS server entry is still set according to
the company's DHCP server, which is invalid
at home. (until now I assume this is unimportant)
Now I am completely out of ideas. I supply my commented data to you, hoping
that someone finds the time to have a look
at it and perhaps can help. Or perhaps someone knows someone else who could
help.
I appreciate all your efforts, and I don't even know how much to thank you
in advance for your time!
Siggi

Computer: SREIMANN
Description:
The system failed to register pointer (PTR) resource records (RRs) for
network adapter
with settings:
Adapter Name : {D3FCAD2D-F2CD-447C-A3A3-B4462842A71B}
Host Name : sreimann
Adapter-specific Domain Suffix : foo.local
DNS server list :
169.254.5.170
Sent update to server : None
IP Address : 169.254.0.210
The reason that the system could not register these RRs was because the
update request that was sent to the specified DNS server timed out. This is
probably because the authoritative DNS server for the name being registered
is
not running.
You can manually retry DNS registration of the network adapter and its
settings by typing "ipconfig /registerdns" at the command prompt. If
problems
still persist, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator. For
specific error code information, see the record data displayed below.

The cause of this DNS registration failure was because the DNS update

probably
because the authoritative DNS server for the name being updated is not
running.
You can manually retry registration of the network adapter and its settings
by typing "ipconfig /registerdns" at the command prompt. If problems still
persist, contact your network systems administrator to verify network
conditions.
