I did not realize earlier: I had a typo in one of my previoud mails.
The device URI must not be parallel:/dev/null but *parallel:/dev/lp0*
So the complete command should read:
GREENDEMON:~# lpadmin -p sscript610 -v parallel:/dev/lp0 -E -m laserjet.ppd
or
GREENDEMON:~# lpadmin -p sscript610 -v parallel:/dev/lp0 -E -P /usr/share/cups/model/laserjet.ppd
