What does "nbtstat -n" from your Win box show? Are the GROUP 00 and 1E
the names the same? Is this the same name found in "workgroup = ", and
without dots?

An example (the names have been changed to protect the innocent):

An "nbtstat -n" here shows GROUP 00 and 1E as "MYWORKGROUP". In the
smb.conf a line reads, and testparm confirms, "workgroup = MYWORKGROUP".
Because Samba is a domain controller my NetBIOS domain is "MYWORKGROUP".

My tcp/ip domain (not the same thing as a NetBIOS domain - don't confuse
them) is "mydomain.local". Notice that it isn't something more like
"myworkgroup.com"; and although it could be and might be a little more
usual it isn't necessary - the two names "MYWORKGROUP" (my NetBIOS
domain) and "mydomain.local" (my tcp/ip domain) need not be related in
this sense.

No. Works fine here (and several other places that I administer).
