[Samba] smb.conf changes not getting affected

After configuring Samba, whenever i make any changes in smb.conf , I have to reboot smbd daemon evertime for the changes to be affected.
Some documentaion say :
 
1. They should be automatically come into affect after every 60 seconds.
2. or by sending 
     kill -HUP siganl to pid of smbd daemon.
 
Both these oprions not working for mee...
 
Can anyone through some lightt and help me out
