Try:

net join -S DOMPDC -U 'DOM\Administrator%password'

As far as the issue with swat, i have had the same issue and gotten no info
on it as of yet. I just built and installed 2.2.8a to solve the swat issue

I just have installed Samba 3.0
I use security = domain
when I try to become member of my NT domain with the command :
smbpasswd -c /etc/samba/smb.conf -r SRV -U admin
(I use the same old and new 12 characters password)
I get the following error :
RAP2245: The password is shorter than required..

another error : I can't connect to swat...
