[Samba] Configure errors, cant find test code

I am having trouble compiling Samba 2.2.8a on Mandrake Linux 9.0. I get 
this error message:

checking for test routines... configure: error: cant find test code. 
Aborting config

The last few lines of my config.log file are

I've been looking, and I haven't found a solution. Any ideas? I've run 
the gpg key on the tar archive and it checked out. Thanks.
