[Samba] Samba slow because of LDAP?

Hi,

I am using a recompiled Samba 2.2.8a with ldapsam.

Is it possible that this type of samba is significally slower than 
smbpasswd Samba?

If so, are there any tricks to get it running faster, because I need the 
LDAP.
