I keep getting problems with XP word documents becoming read only during
editing and this is a typical log entry for the event:

[2002/11/12 10:00:03, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(761)
  oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds.
oplock_break failed for file Jane/Computers/041102 Computer Error log.doc
(dev = 303, inode = 2768905, file_id = 805).
[2002/11/12 10:00:03, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(833)
oplock_break: client failure in oplock break in file Jane/Computers/041102
Computer Error log.doc
[2002/11/12 10:00:03, 0] smbd/reply.c:reply_lockingX(4480)
reply_lockingX: Error : oplock break from client for fnum = 5632 and no
oplock granted on this file (Jane/Computers/041102 Computer Error log.doc).

This is RedHat 7.2 with Samba 2.2.7 from the RPMs

It's only a 12 station network and I don't think that we need oplocks so I
have

[global]
oplocks = false
kernel oplocks = false
level2 oplocks = false

in /etc/samba/smb.conf

But still they come!

I am statring to get desparate as the fix maybe to install a Win2K server -
Arrrrrgh!

Any ideas gratfully discussed.

Sorry in advance for any imbecility!
