[Samba] ldapsam.so missing

Hi all,
 
I am trying to get Samba 3 to authenticate against Sun One Directory
Server 5.2. 
 
I ran ./configure --with-ldap --with-ldapsam --with-pam
--with-pam_smbpass --with-acl-support
--with-shared-modules=lkdap,ldapsam 
but everytime  I run ./smbclient - L servername -N SMBD complains of a
timeout error. 
 
I check the log.smbd file and it complains that ldapsam.so missing,
despite the fact that I specified it when running the configure script. 
 
Anyone out there have an idea?
