Hi guys, I have done both, upgraded to the lastest stable, and gone back,
but stil I am not able to get users or groups.

Any suggestions, can I send my smb.conf file to see if I am missing
something ?

Thanks,

Pete

The samba-2.2.8a-1 package from samba.org contains everything you need.
You do not need to samba-client-2.2.8a-1 samba-common-2.2.8a-1 packages
as all the files you need are in the one psamba-team package.

Red Hat (as do other Linux distros) splits the samba components into
multiple packages.
