I think that such a project would need Open Source anti-virus software in
order to be viable. The AMaViS folk (http://www.amavis.org/) are able to
bypass licensing issues by running commercial software and then parsing
the results. They do this for mail processing, however, not for active
read/write of files. I don't know much about the Open AntiVirus Project
(http://www.openantivirus.org/) but that's probably the kind of thing that
would be needed if it were going to be built-in to a VFS layer.
