i also had this running configuration you prefer and had very strange
problems with *.doc-files to save. installed was the standard rpm 2.2.3a
from suse 8.0. all tests with configurations about oplock, strict sync,...
didn't help.
so i tried samba 2.2.5 with ldapsam and the smb.conf of the ldap-pdc (a
little bit modified - no add user script, low oslevel and so on) and since
this time all works fine!
