[Samba] SAMBA passwords

I have been trying to get Samba up and running, but when I try to logon from a Windows 2000 box, I get a message:

'Incorrect password or unknown username for:
    \\LinuxServer\username'

When I enter the username/password, it invariably fails.

The username and password are identical on both the Linux and Windows machines.

If anyone has an answer, it would be greatly appreciated.
