[Samba] Problem installing Samba 3.0

Dear Sir/Ms.:

1)  I used file samba-3.0-alpha17.tar.gz 

     gunzip -cd samba-3.0-alpha17.tar.gz | tar xvf -


     The above command on the file uncompressed  successfully
=================================================

2) The command below used on the file resulted in an error message.

  ./configure -prefix=/usr/local/samba
  "configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config"

  The file below does not exist 

  root at home:/usr/local/samba/samba-3.0-alpha17/source/include/config.h


  The file below does exist but it is not hte same as config.h

  root at home:/usr/local/samba/samba-3.0-alpha17/source/include/config.h.in

I did the same thing as above using a newer Samab file, namely samba-3.0-alpha20.tar.gz, but resulted in the same error message. As in the above installation, the file config.h does not exist. The file config.h.in however, does exist, but it is not the same as config.h.
