Hi. after 2 days of looking, checking and rechecking I've just found that I made a mistake in the swat file I'd created in xinetd.d ... got the path to swat wrong. What a fool am I. All's working brilliantly now. Thanks to all for your assistance... sorry it was my mistake. Mike
