Have you only tcpip protocol on W2k?
When no try uninstall another protocols.
encrypt passwords must by on for result 8,9,11.
or yuo must change w2k registry as described in samba docs..

  Hello again,

I have to apologize for the wrong info in my previous email. I got the errors because I forgot to exit out the root account. I did try again and found out that I can do things correctly from the Samba server to NT server(s) but not the other way around. I am still getting the 8, 9 and 11 problem.

  Thanks,

  Chai-Wang Chang

  Hello,

I have tried all your suggestions but no luck. I did find out when I set "encrypt passwords = yes" the "smbclient -L" does not work on the Samba server any more. When the encrypt passwords is comment out, the "smbclinet -L BIGSERVER" works fine. If I changed the BIGSERVER to one of our NT Server, I got the same error as encrypted passwords turned on. The error is

  [root at LiunxP100 init.d]# smbclient -L RITI_NT_01

  added interface ip=61.63.2.203 bcast=61.63.2.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

  Got a positive name query response from 61.63.2.14 ( 61.63.2.14 )

  Password:

  session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

Your kindly response is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

  Best regards,

  Chai-Wang Chang

  Your test take two missconf.

  1. On samba server you must have: encrypt passwords = yes and domain logons = no and security=user in global conf

  2. On W2K server you must have not domain only workgroup and you must log in as user with name and password identicall for samba smbpasswd -a used. I mean that tcpip on both work ok.

  Bye.

    Dear Sir,

I have been getting this error on the PC site when I tried to connect to the Samba server. I have Red Hat 8.0 installed and I am using Windows 2000 Server as client. I have tried all the steps listed in the 'DIAGNOSIS.txt' and here are the results.

    Test 1, 2,3,4 passed.

Test 5: I can only use IP but not PC Name.

    Test 6, 7 passed.

Test 8: I got "System error 53 has occurred." from PC. I did add server name to the lmhosts file and the result is still the same.

Test 9: Failed. Same error as Test 8.

    Test 10: passed.

Test 11: The samba server did appear in the File Manager. But, when I double click on the name, the same error as Test 8 appeared.

I am looking for help and any suggestion to solve this problem. Your kindly response is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Chai-Wang Chang
