[Samba] Painfully slow writes in MS-DOS

Hey folks,

I was having a problem at work with Samba 2.2.3a (SuSE 8.0) as well as a Redhat machine I know nothing about and an HP Workstation station I know nothing about.

Each had painfully slow writes from dos clients (for using Norton Ghost).  I tried many machines, many nics, and even played with different hubs.  All caused problems.  I even tried VM-Ware to VM-Ware.

I have Samba 2.2.4 at home and it is am smooth as silk, so I may not need help,

BUT!!!

I went through the process of repackaging our handy-dandy multi boot floppy for the purpose of getting help, and while I may not need the help any more, you folks may find it useful.

This is a winimage IMA file with the FLP extension for VMWare.

It has these dos nic drivers

                    1. Intel 10/100mbit
                    2. Intel PCMCIA 10/100
                    3. 3COM Etherlink III 509 10mbit
                    4. 3COM Etherlink III 509TP 10mbit (rare)
                    5. 3COM 905 10/100mbit
                    6. 3COM 589 PCMCIA 10mbit
                    7. 3COM 575 PCMCIA 10/100mbit
                    8. AMD PCI Nic (VMWARE)

It is broken, in some respects, because I had to take out any biz related info.  Also, for the sake of testing at home, I have disabled DHCP in the protocol.ini (which is located in a:\zip.zip as "protocol.bs1") but if you change the line 

	DisableDHCP=1

to

	DisableDHCP=0

DHCP will work again.

It also auto logs in with username "blank" password "blank"

You can change this at the bottom of frogo.bat

I will be deleting this file tomarrow because I am on 256k DSL and I don't want to be /.'d
