[Samba] Windows 2000 logon error

I found out something else interesting.  When I do:

[root at archives1 jrogers]# smbclient //archives1/awilliam -U awilliam
smb: \> ls
  .                                   D       0  Tue Oct  1 12:26:22 2002
  ..                                  D       0  Mon Nov  4 09:21:11 2002
  .profile                                  406  Wed Aug 21 09:16:39 2002
  backups                             D       0  Fri Sep  7 06:00:25 2001

  .wastebasket                        D       0  Thu Nov 30 15:28:59 2000

  timesheet.dot                       A   28672  Mon Jul  1 08:49:18 2002

and such, but when I do it as jrogers:

[root at archives1 jrogers]# smbclient //archives1/jrogers -U jrogers
smb: \> ls
NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE listing \*

but if I do:
[root at archives1 home]# cd ~jrogers
[root at archives1 jrogers]# ls
FSA101.sql       dahmer.doc                              jffscolg.sql
PI_R_B_S_1.doc   dailylog.frm                            kkk.doc
PI_R_B_S_10.doc  dailylog.per                            list.sql
PI_R_B_S_11.doc  dailylog.sql                            list.txt

then there is plenty of files in there.  Does anyone know why it is
causing that?
