I have the same problem you mention but with a exception and this is with
the "extended recycle bin" patch.
if i delete a file that is under a directory all is ok.
if i delete a file that is under the root of the share give me this errors:

"May 15 09:42:24 samba01 smbd[15373]: PANIC: internal error
May 15 09:42:24 samba01 smbd[15373]:
May 15 09:42:24 samba01 smbd[15375]: [2002/05/15 09:42:24, 0]
recycle.c:vfs_init(201)
May 15 09:42:24 samba01 smbd[15375]: sizeof(SMB_OFF_T) = 8
May 15 09:42:24 samba01 smbd[15375]: [2002/05/15 09:42:24, 0]
recycle.c:recycle_unlink(358)"
