One other thing that has happeened recently is that some WINS servers have
been shut down. Could this be impacting my ability to talk to the PDC?

Subject: [Samba] Users can't map drives after upgrade

Help!

After upgrading to 2.2.3a from 2.2.2, we have a strange problem that's
happening. When users try to map a drive, it asks for the username/password
even though we're using server authenticaiton.

There are lots of messages in the log.<machine name> files complaining
about not being able to open the passwd database

[2002/05/06 09:52:47, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1367)
  unable to open passdb database.
[2002/05/06 09:52:47, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1367)
  unable to open passdb database.

As far as I can tell from perusing the source, this is if you are
using the smbpasswd files which we are not. We are using server
authentication via a local PDC (win2k PDC, I believe). So why
is it trying to hit the smbpasswd file?

Any thoughts?

Eric
