I am running redhat 7.0 that has version 2.0.7 of smbd and have downloaded samba-2.2.3a-20020206.i386.rpm

I have stopped samba (smb stop) and when I try either rpm -i samba-2.2.3a-20020206.i386.rpm or rpm -U samba-2.2.3a-20020206.i386.rpm I get the following error: failed dependencies:
        libreadline.so.4   is needed by samba-2.2.3a-20020206

I have done a find and found libreadline versions in /usr/lib as follows:

-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       217996 Aug 18  2000 /usr/lib/libreadline.a
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           18 Mar 10 06:19 /usr/lib/libreadline.so -> libreadline.so.4.1
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           18 Mar 10 06:37 /usr/lib/libreadline.so.3 -> libreadline.so.3.0
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       168423 Jul 13  2000 /usr/lib/libreadline.so.3.0
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           18 Mar 10 06:00 /usr/lib/libreadline.so.4 -> libreadline.so.4.1
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root       177545 Aug 18  2000 /usr/lib/libreadline.so.4.1

so libreadline.so.4 exists!

I have tried adding /usr/lib to $PATH but this makes no difference

Have you heard of this problem?

Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks, John Bagster
