smbpasswd and "SECURITY=SERVER" (was: RE: [Samba] Some users can' t log in -- server shows username as "nobody")

Okay, some off-list discussion on my other problem got me wondering -- is
there any reason to have an smbpasswd file if you're using
"security=server"?
