This problem is certainly not caused by typing wrong password. I checked
it on dozens of users and dozens of times, even trying smbpasswd from
console, just after carefully setting the password (both passwd and
smbpasswd) as root. I've also tried typing
"smbpasswd -r localhost username", but still no success. It worked before
the upgrade to 2.2.1a (from 2.0.10 IIRC). Any chance to get it working? Or
is it a problem with pam settings? However I have seen the same problem on
different machine, fresh RedHat 7.2 installation.

I thing to note: I do not have my PDC machine (its netbios name) listed in
neither /etc/passwd nor /etc/samba/smbpasswd. Maybe that is the source of
the problem?

Best wishes,
