[Samba] Win2k PDC -> Samba 2.2.3a PDC -> Can't access encrypted data

I made a jump from Win2k controlled domain to a Samba controlled one.

One user was encrypting files and now he can't access his files.

I tried rejoining the old domain but that did not help... I assume that 
the private key to use to encryption was lost. 

I tried to access the files as a Backup Recovery Agent -- no go. 

Any ideas how I could save the files?
