[Samba] use of the tdb files?

I am trying to understand what does each one of the tdb files and other
files in the lock dir do,
as well as who updates them and when.
I am looking for the best way to maintain a high availability cluster and I
want to synchronize the important files.

can anyone tell me where is there documentation about this files?
