To add your NT & W2K stations to smb.conf automagically, use the "add user 
script" option.

I have this in my smb.conf on 2.2.2 on my test machine:
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 1026 -s /dev/null -M %u
to add machine accounts (1026 is the MACHINES group, and you will or course 
need to see if you have "useradd" and it's location. I am on a RH system). 
(I don't know who originally posted it; I found it on the Samba list)
