[Samba] locking problems after upg to 2.2.2

Upgraded from 1.x on Solaris 8 to 2.2.2 on Solaris8

Previously other users were locked out if the file was being updated.
Now all-comers are allowed to write to the same file; causing corruptions.
All locking/sharing settings at their defaults. Can't see anything obviously 
wrong. The same settings on 1.x worked fine.

Any ideas for solutions/troubleshooting appreciated.
