[Samba] Samba & Redhat - Oplocks

Can any one help me ? This has been bugging me for ages.

I have been using different versions of samba for a while on different
versions of Redhat (7.0, 7.2, 7.3). I regularly get erratic freezing (for
about a minute) whenever I right click on files. This has happened on
different computers on different sites on different networks, so I assume
it's quite consistent

This is what I get when using RedHat RPM installed samba (2.2.3a)

[2002/06/04 02:01:28, 2] smbd/process.c:switch_message(678)
switch_message: queueing message due to being in oplock break state.
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(758)
  oplock_break: receive_smb error (Success)
  oplock_break failed for file boot/grub/fat_stage1_5 (dev = 801, inode =
4025, file_id = 1120).
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(843)
oplock_break: client failure in break - shutting down this smbd.
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 2] smbd/server.c:exit_server(458)
  Closing connections
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(653)
winxp (192.168.80.1) closed connection to service root
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 2] smbd/close.c:close_normal_file(210)
root closed file (numopen=1) Unknown error 4294967295
[2002/06/04 02:02:02, 2] smbd/close.c:close_normal_file(210)
  root closed file boot/grub/fat_stage1_5 (numopen=0)

When I compiled and installed 2.2.5 I get exactly the same problem only I
get different log entries. I assume it's the same problem only being logged
differently as it's too much of a coinicidence.

This is what I get.

oplock granted on this file (usr/package/etc/xinetd.d/swat).

I have so far found that switching of oplocks helps, but I don't want to
lose on throughput if I don't have to.

Thanks a lot
