[Samba] printing problems

You haven't gotten any responses so I'll just toss in some ideas.
Knowing nothing about this printer:
Have you tried:
kill -SIGHUP SambaPid ?
Knowing nothing about this printer, (second disclaimer), is it acting
like a network server, not just a printer? In that case, when you turn it
off, it might be like turning off a network computer, and samba may be
confused because it it still trying to talk to the printer using a dead
connection. In that case, your samba logs may have some things of interest.
Is there some configuration needed on the printer side for it to
re-establish communication with the server when it is turned back on?
What does your smb.conf share look like for this printer?
