[Samba] Can't change password

People,

I get the following response when trying to change a password from a 
windows XP/2K samba pdc client:

from windows - "The system cannot change your password now because the 
domain X is not available"

from samba log - "pdb_free_sam: SAM_ACCOUNT was NULL"

Samba version 2.2.5pre1, security = USER.
