[Samba] Network user ID greater then UNIX user ID - Log on problem

Help,

I am new to "SAMBA" and installed version 2.0.7.0 on an AIX 4.3.3 System. 
Users whos network name is less then eight characters can access the shares 
fine.  However the users who have network ID greater then 8 characters can 
not connect.  Is there a way to have "SAMBA" prompt for the UNIX ID as well 
as the password. so these users can connect?
