[Samba] samba and cifs

CIFS is microsofts version of SMB right
so whats samba server based on , SMB ? ( but how does it differ from CIFS )

am sure Micorsoft clients like w2k or nt are CIFS 

some storage vendors have CIFS enabled on their unix platforms

question is how does their implementation differes,

CIFS and SMB are the same thing really (cifs is just the next version)
And no CIFS/SMB is not a standard.
