it can distinguish between win40 and w32x86.
in my (limited) experience it is possible to find one driver that will
work for all three NT type OSs

I don't know what you mean by a cookie - but I've not heard anything
about that.

I think you should go with 2.2.6pre due to some printing bugs in 2.2.5.
