[Samba] mounting a windows drive as a block device

hello all.

after searching through documentation and list archives i do not believe that what i want to do is possible however...

my friend runs windows machine on the lan.  he has a dvd drive that i would like to access with transcode and other programs.  however i need to access this drive as a block device in order for transcode to work.  can i use samba to mount my friends dvd drive as a block device?
