maybe it could be about the "max connections" configuration.
Check your conf file and look for it. Removing the option
should allow unlimited connections.

$man smb.conf

        max connections (S)
               This  option allows the number of simultaneous con-
  		(..removed..)

               Default: max connections = 0

               Example: max connections = 10
