[Samba] Unix command

Hello,
I have a solaris 8 box running samba. This really doesn't have anything to do with samba, it is about a unix command to list and copy files from an 8mm tape drive. Does anyone know what the unix command would be to do this. The tar command does not work because they are not tar files. I tried to go into /dev/rmt/0 but I get nothing. Does anyone know how to do this.
