Try this patch with 2.4.19-rc1 and see if it helps:

It should speed up the timeout of the blocking processes. You still won't
be able to kill them and if your mp3 player (whatever) isn't checking
returncodes properly it will never stop trying.

Which player are you using and what type of files is it?

It's because it isn't in use at the exakt moment when the server
disappears. The share with your music is constantly being read while you
play.
