[Samba] kernel recommendations

We have many Samba servers in production. A few of them are having
problems with file corruption. I've seen mention of issues with kernel
2.4.18.  I know that 2.5.x has some necessary patches. My question is,
what kernel is now recommended? Is 2.5 stable enough for production? Or
is there an earlier 2.4.x without the issues of 2.4.18 that is more
recommended?
