[Samba] Name resolution problems

Oi, that's a lot of PC's.
I always learn by experimenting, not hard on a small home network.

This sounds like a professional question.

Are you in charge of this network?

What solution works will depend on how other machines on your network
are configured. For example, is there a wins server on your network? If
so, that might be able to take care of things for you, if it is working
properly. If there is no other wins server on your network, maybe setting
up a wins server on your samba box might do it. Setting up a linux box
as a wins server is simple in theory. But, it may be hard depending on
your network.

Are the other machines configured to use a DNS ? If so, maybe just add
your linux server to the DNS. If there is no DNS and you have to set one up,
I really don't know how to set up such a big system without doing an awful
lot of work. (Amateur talk here.)

If a wins server doesn't work, and, there is no DNS server already in
operation, I would be afraid to offer any other advice on a network
this big. I would imagine though, for a system this big, a DNS would be the
way to go.

Better repost your question back to the main group.

Joel
