[Samba]Problem with SAMBA opening files

Hi

I have a SAMBA setup with about 10 users hanging 
off an old VA Fullon Raid rackmount server.
I have the most latest SAMBA version running 
on it, and suddenly yesterday, it's gone berzerk.
It won't open any more files, creating all kinds of havoc.
The error log, /var/log/messages, says this:

I believe the dmesg file said the number of open files in the VFS is exhausted at
4096 files in the kernel.

Can I fix this?  SAMBA have to be able to handle more activity than this?

Maybe the problem is with the RAID?
