Logging Question

All,

   Fairly new to SAMBA, have got 3 SAMBA servers running on AIX4.3.3 sharing jfs filesystems to 95,98,NT and W2K boxes.

   I use it fairly simply, the just map the share required, using windows explorer. One of the boxes, I've tried to set up as a homes server. smb.conf is as follows;

	[global]
        		workgroup = XXXX
       		netbios name = CMPSP1CW
        		security = SERVER
        		encrypt passwords = Yes
        		password server = xx.xx.xx.xx
        		log file = /usr/local/samba/log/log.%U
       		max log size = 3000

	[homes]
        		comment = Home-Directory
       		read only = No
       		create mask = 0750
       	 	browseable = No

    It's being working fine, but I thought I'd try to log what each user was doing. So I added the 2 log parameters you can see to my [global] section. This created 3 zero length files in the log dir. I then connected to a share and another 2 files were created;

	-rw-r--r--   1 root     system         0 Jan 25 14:14 log.bowencr1
	-rw-r--r--   1 root     system         0 Jan 25 14:15 log.shephed1
	-rw-r--r--   1 root     system         0 Jan 25 14:15 log.swainli1
	-rw-r--r--   1 root     system         0 Jan 25 14:16 log.
	-rw-r--r--   1 root     system         0 Jan 25 14:16 log.nobody

   My questions are;

	1. Why was nothing logged to log.shephed1 when I connected?
	2. What is log. and log.nobody?

TIA
