Fwd: Samba and automounts?

Hiya.  I've shared, via Samba, /home, which is an automount point. 
Unfortunately, even explicitly "asking" for /home/<username> doesn't
appear to do the trick.  How do I tell Samba to request an automount?
Note that mounting the user's homedir during login works flawlessly --
it's only when I'm trying to explicitly access someone else's directory
that it doesn't work -- but, if I automount it via a "request" from the
Unix side, all is suddenly fine.
