Problems upgrading 2.2.1a --> 2.2.2

I wonder if you can help?

After upgrading one of our systems to 2.2.2 one of the shares has stopped
working properly. The share maps ok and files can be seen but none can be
written to. It appears that this is to do with the underlying ownership of
the files being shared. The problem can be resolved (for debugging purposes)
by putting the owner of the files in the 'valid users' field then mapping
other users in the users.map to that user. Unfortunately this is not
feasible as a permanent solution. I was wondering if there are any new or
old parameters that have been added/removed, or that have had default values
changed, that could affect the functionality of the software in the way that
we have observed. When the old version of the software is restored
everything works fine (of course we use the same smb.conf). I have included
a copy of the smb.conf below (with sensitive info XX'd out):

# Global parameters
[global]
        workgroup = XXXXXXXX
        netbios name = XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
        interfaces = XXXXXXXXXXX
        bind interfaces only = Yes
        security = SERVER
        password server = LONDEV2001
        username map = /usr/local/samba/lib/users.map
        log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m
        preferred master = Yes
        wins server = XXXXXXXXXXXX
        preload = kondor
        mangle case = Yes
        oplocks = No
;       guest account = kplus

[kusers]
        comment = Kondor Users preferences directories
        path = /users/%U
        valid users = kdeal1, kdeal2, kdeal3, kdeal4, kdeal5, kdeal6,
kdeal7, kdeal8, kdeal9, kdeal10, kdeal11 kdeal12 kdeal13
        read only = No
        create mask = 0770

[kondor]
        comment = Kondor directory
        path = /usr/kplushome
;       public = yes
;       writable = yes
;       only guest = yes
        valid users = kdeal1, kdeal2, kdeal3, kdeal4, kdeal5, kdeal6,
kdeal7, kdeal8, kdeal9, kdeal10, kdeal11 kdeal12 kdeal13
        read only = No
        create mask = 0775

The [kondor] share is the one we are having problems with, [kusers] works
fine (it is the home account area, the files are owned by the various kdealX
users). On the face of it both shares look identical, the only diffence
being the ownership of the files being shared, but all was OK before the
upgrade.

Do you have any ideas or solutions?

Kind Regards,

Jim Stuart.
